Yes I know; this book The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly? is more than a years old. So a bit late to write a review on it. But since it played such an important role in my decision to start with CarArtSpot.com, I would love to share it with you.

In particular, I want to share it with all those fine artists who create car art because of their inner need to express themselves and to share their emotions, stirred by cars, with a larger audience.

Sharing your emotions makes you vulnerable. It places you in a position where you may be critiqued by people. But it is the vulnerability that makes it interesting.

The Icarus Deception by Seth Godin

In this book Seth Godin is inspiring the reader to fly high, to explore his or her potential, to follow their dreams to live life to its' fullest. He encourages his readers to do so and at the same time preparing for critique. “If they don’t like what you are doing, then it’s just not for them,” says Godin. He encourages readers to go and find another audience and not to fall into the trap of trying to be everything for everybody.

Seth Godin’s definition of art is “the act of a human being doing generous work, creating something for the first time, touching another person.” Godin also believes that “art is what we do when we are truly alive.” He states that entrepreneurship, connection and customer service, among others are the new performing arts.

Any artists out there who are insecure about following their dream should read this book and feel encouraged.

One sentence on what he calls the connection economy struck me and became the backbone of CarArtSpot -- “People who care find others who care and they all end up caring about something even more than they did before they met.”
